Nathan McSweeney and Josh Inglis have been added to Australia’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. McSweeney will make his debut in the first match, starting on November 22 in Perth. He is expected to open the batting with Usman Khawaja, as the opening position has been uncertain since David Warner retired earlier this year.

Inglis is also in the squad, mainly as a backup batter and wicketkeeper. He has been in good form in domestic cricket and is also leading Australia in the ODI series against Pakistan. His ability to keep wickets and bat makes him a useful addition to the team.

The rest of the squad is similar to previous teams, with Pat Cummins leading the fast bowlers, including Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland. Nathan Lyon is the only specialist spinner, while Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head could bowl spin if needed. Alex Carey will continue as the wicketkeeper and has been performing well with the bat.

McSweeney earned his spot in the squad with strong performances for South Australia and Australia A. He played well as an opener in recent matches, even though it was his first time opening at this level. His solid batting helped Australia A win two games against India A, and selectors decided he was ready for a Test debut.

Australia’s decision to include two uncapped batters, McSweeney and Inglis, is a bit unusual. Normally, Australia adds extra bowlers to the squad as backups. But with McSweeney likely to open and Inglis offering batting depth and wicketkeeping skills, the squad looks ready for the upcoming Test series.
